Post Surgery

by Janet June 2, 2017 No Comments

Surgery went well.  The doctor successfully removed the scarring and we have proof of it!  For some reason, every surgery I have had, we receive photos.  With my tally of surgeries increasing, I could start a family album.  😆 We got back to the hotel mid-afternoon, I pretty much slept the rest of the day as I was very sleepy, woozy and nauseous.  I tried to eat a little although I was not hungry and was getting sick.  I had a little vomit and Jack became very worried but the Dr. said it was to be expected. I pretty much slept through the night.  The Dr. also noted that I had a small uterus (infantile uterus) saying the top and bottom measurement of my uterus is small but with this surgery, it should fix the opening and he believes I can have a successful pregnancy.  Now when you look at me, don’t envision small uterus!  😉  I often wonder if this has anything to do with being almost two months premature?  Who knows…we can’t do anything about that now!

Day after surgery.  I am feeling much better than yesterday.  I still feel crampy but trying to eat more (no appetite); I am watching the Food Network hoping it will make me hungry!   Jack was going to make this guest appearance on this blog yesterday but he was waiting on me hand and foot.  It was very unexpected that I was going to feel so bad.  He should go to nursing school because he’s been with me through the 8 times I have had procedures and has done a great job supporting me.

Next steps:

In 2 weeks, I will see my doctor at home to remove the balloon stint they put in my uterus to keep the walls from sticking together (the cause of the cramping).

Sometime in August, we will do another hysteroscopy (surgery I did yesterday) to check to make sure I have healed properly and the scarring did not return. At the same time, start the ivf process again and begin an egg retrieval process. The doctor recommends going through another egg retrieval vs. trying naturally or IUI as he thinks it’s a better way to go as the other options do not allow for genetic testing of the embryo and being over 35 there’s a big concern for down syndrome and other abnormalities.  And if our last embryo didn’t work, he wanted us to be realistic in the case I miscarry along the way and then we don’t have any more embryos as backup and lose more time later.
If all goes well, prep for another embryo transfer sometime in late October or November.  Now we wait again, we are used to this and every day I say a prayer to give us more patience and hope for better news.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and following our journey.
