California: IVF Coverage isn’t Mandated | Help Pass the Bill

Huge Ask! This would be a big help if you live in California. I received the below email from Resolve.org and my husband and I submitted the letters to tell Lorena Gonzalez, Assembly Member, on why we need fertility coverage in California.

Description of Bill: This bill would require every health care service plan contract or health insurance policy that is issued, amended, or renewed on or after January 1, 2020, to provide coverage for in vitro fertilization, as a treatment of infertility, and mature oocyte cryopreservation.

Our Story: After I left my corporate job in August 2018 and moved to my husband’s insurance, we found that IVF or anything related to infertility was not covered. We have spent over $50K so far, in hopes we will have a child in the near future. Infertility is a disease and is not covered by insurance. Help us build a family without breaking our bank. Send this to anyone you know that lives in California to send a this letter to State Representative Lorena Gonzalez.

Dear Friend,

The California Assembly Health Committee overwhelmingly passed the Fair Access to Fertility Treatment Act (FAFTA) last week. It now goes to the all-important Appropriations Committee, where it must pass in order for the bill to stay alive and go to a floor vote. The Appropriations Committee Chair holds all the power so we need to make sure she hears from all of you about why FAFTA is important to California families…why coverage for IVF and fertility preservation should become law!

Send this letter now – tell Assembly member Lorena Gonzalez why you want this life-changing legislation to advance! (If Gonzalez is your individual lawmaker, make sure you tell her you are her constituent.)

And forward this email to every Californian you know.

It’s critical that you voice your support for fair access to fertility treatment in California.Send your letter – don’t delay!

Act now to give Californians a fair shot at family!
